Laurent Van Houcke
Laurent Van Houcke is the Co-founder and Managing Director of Bboxx’s Capital Division.
Born in 1988, Laurent is from Belgium. He studied Electrical Engineering at Imperial College London. While studying, Laurent met our two other co-founders – Mansoor Hamayun and Christopher Baker-Brian. Through their experiences travelling, they saw first-hand the challenges that communities and businesses face without access to energy supplies. From 2008-2010, Laurent ran e.quinox, a successful student charity, along with his classmates, Mansoor and Chris. e.quinox initially brought electricity to six villages in Rwanda and continues to operate today.
Following the university, Laurent also did multiple internships at EDF on the Power Academy Program
Over 10 years ago, Mansoor, Chris and Laurent founded Bboxx to create a sustainable, affordable, and commercial solution that would allow for unprecedented access to energy and transform the lives of millions.
As the Capital Division MD of Bboxx, Laurent manages investments and relationships with a network of partners over 10 countries in the developing world, sharing best practices and implementing Bboxx’s standard operational Playbook to finance our next generation utility businesses across our markets in Africa and Asia.
Laurent is currently based in Kigali, Rwanda overseeing Bboxx’s investments and operations across the continent.
